In the 1940s, Marbella was just a small village in the south of Spain. Indeed, it wasn’t until the 1950s that things started to take off. As its reputation grew it soon began to play host to some of the richest people on the planet. But behind the glitz and the glamour, there is more to Marbella than that. With only a 40-minute drive to Malaga airport, Marbella has fantastic access, and on top of that it is a great base from which to explore the rest of Spain like Cordoba, Granada and Seville and all within easy reach. There is plenty on offer to enjoy. If you fancy strolling down for a walk for some sightseeing, shopping and dinner then Marbella makes the perfect base for either a tourist or a resident. The beautiful old town center of Marbella around the attractive Plaza de los Naranjos incorporates the remains of its medieval walls, with two battlemented towers. It’s a pleasure to wander about the Casquo Antiguo, a maze of narrow cobbled streets and ancient whitewashed facades. Just a stones throw away are superb beaches stretch to the Mediterranean in front of attractive promenades with  waterfront cafés, bars and restaurants.Walk on the wild side and visit the Adventure Parks like The Crocodile Park in Torremolinos, the Selwo Park in Estepona and the Biopark in Fuengirola all of which are for those who are animal and nature lovers. The Alameda Park is packed with tropical flowers, fountains and striking statues, and the Bonsai Museum, showcasing perhaps the best collection of bonsai trees and wild olive trees in the world.A great escape from the coast is a day trip to Ronda. It is a very scenic drive through the mountains and there are many beautiful sights once you arrive. For those who like it a bit bumpy and fun a Jeep Safari would be the call. On board spacious open roof Land Rovers, you will discover the beauty of the UNESCO Nature Park “Sierra de las Nieves”. Enjoy the sunshine, Spanish flora and fauna and fresh mountain air.More adventure is available at Sphere Mania. With enough courage you can tear down a hill at speeds of up to 40kph inside a four meter inflatable sphere. Get ready to rumble! With temperatures up to over 40 degrees in summer you might feel like splashing around in the Aquaparc in Fuengirola. Slides and waterfalls will refresh your hot body and soul before hitting the gold paved streets of Puerto Banus for some nightlife experience.Last but not least – don’t forget this just happens to be the Costa Del Golf – and if you are partial to this infuriating yet fascinating game – you couldn’t be in a better location, with plenty of Europe’s top golf courses right on your doorstep. If you do have a personal experience during a holiday in Marbella then it would be interesting to know about it.
